Márquez exploits Martín’s crash and takes control of the MotoGP title
The Ducati rider won the Australian Sprint and extended his lead to ten points. The Aprilia rider is under observation after losing control during a direct duel.
Márquez crossed the finish line first, took another Sprint victory and stretched his lead in the MotoGP World Championship. The duel with Jorge Martín lasted eight laps. Then the Aprilia rider crashed and everything changed.
Eight laps of direct fighting
The race was decided through close combat. Martín kept looking for a way to pass Márquez and the gap remained minimal. On lap eight, the Aprilia rider lost control and went down. He was taken immediately to the circuit medical center and placed under observation.
With Martín out of the fight, Márquez managed the advantage and claimed his 24th victory in the Sprint format. I remember races like this: one error changes the entire championship picture. There is no room for hesitation when every point counts.
“The Sprint was marked by an intense duel between Márquez and Martín. The crash left the Aprilia rider under observation and handed the lead to Ducati.”Maximiliano Andrada
- Márquez won the Australian Sprint and reached 365 championship points.
- Martín remained in observation at the medical center after his crash.
- Álex Márquez finished second and Fabio Di Giannantonio completed Ducati’s 1-2-3 podium.
- Márquez now leads Martín by ten points in the championship.
- The main race on Sunday is the final MotoGP event at Phillip Island.
Ducati monopolized the podium with Álex Márquez in second place and Fabio Di Giannantonio in third. The Italian manufacturer left nothing for the others. Marco Bezzecchi, Pedro Acosta, Ai Ogura, Brad Binder, Jack Miller, Diogo Moreira and Iker Lecuona completed the top ten.
Márquez’s advantage in the standings is now ten points: 365 against Martín’s 355. After weeks of changes in the lead, the Ducati rider holds the strongest position. Martín’s physical condition is the big unknown. If he cannot start on Sunday, the gap could become even more difficult to close.
The long race at Phillip Island will be the last MotoGP event held at that circuit. Another piece of history on the line. The next rival is the main race on Sunday, with Martín’s recovery and the ten-point difference waiting on the track.
